Johann Baptist Wanhal
Litania in Eb Nokki 88 [Weinmann XXa:Es1]
Wanhal ?
Nokki 88
Weinmann XXa:Es1
Authenticity: Possibly authentic
This work survives in only one copy; no counterattributions are known to exist. Its key scheme is somewhat unusual, but it is not impossible for it to have been conceived in this way – it might be a rather late work. The recurring use of idiomatic cadential figures seen in several movements is a trait typical of Wanhal.
Completion
The two horn parts alluded to on the title page of the surviving manuscript are missing. Since there are no other copies, these must be considered lost. Even so, what survives must be said to represent the work well enough that there is no reason to regard it as a 'lost' work.
