Authenticity: Probably Authentic
This work survives in multiple copies in Wanhal's name,
with no known counter-attributions. Stylistically the attribution seems
very reasonable. The higher tempi, lack of fuzzy mid-century rhythmic
notation and advanced fugal writing suggests that this is a later work.
Variants
The work survives in two variants. In Nokki 20b, most of
the Et vitam fugue has been cut out. The style of the fugue is very
typical, and this is therefore likely to be a local adaptation made
without Wanhal's involvement.
