Autenticity: Dubious authenticity

Only one copy of this work is known, and the work therefore has no counterattributions. Stylistically, however, there is some reason to doubt the attribution, on grounds such as the opening Gloria being set in 'alla breve' style and the notational incogruities described below. As no alternative attributions exist it has nevertheless been kept in the main catalogue.

Incorrect rhythms

The only known copy of this work has a number of bars with incorrect rhythms. These mostly stem from attempts to cram too many demisemiquavers into certain bars (but see the soprano in the Kyrie incipit!). As the interpretation of these are not entirely obvious, they have been left unchanged in the incipits.

Orchestration

The only surviving manuscript contains identical parts for oboe and clarinet (both are supposed to switch to flutes for the Christe), and whereas the title page calls for trumpets, horn parts are found within. The ultimate choice of orchestration is tentative, but it seems most likely that the work was written with trumpets (and lost timpani?) and oboes in mind, and that a change to clarinets and horn happened later.
