Authenticity: Possibly Authentic
This work survives only in one copy. Stylistically it is not obviously dissimilar to Wanhal, even if it does not feature any hallmarks that positively identifies it with him. One moment that slightly argues against his authorship is the consistent post-cadential rise from 1 to 3 in the soprano part. Cadences ending frequently on 3 is a common sign that a work is not indeed by Wanhal, but this is different, and not enough to disqualify the work. The reminiscence between the closing of the Kyrie and Dona Nobis is not seen in any of Wanhal's works, but is an idea that would be typical of him, and is counted in favour of his authorship. The organ writing in the Quoniam is also strongly reminiscent of other settings by him, as is the continual reworking of a one-bar motive in the violins in the Et incarnatus. Finally, the dot above the n in his name on the title page speaks in favour of the manuscript originating close to the composer.
Numbering
This manuscript was being restored during the initial search for works, and was therefore not included in the original catalogue. It is therefore not possible to include it in sequence, but it has been labelled Nokki 00 so as to place it with the other works in C.
